This is the problem reported on bug #537331. But I am keeping both bugs open by now, instead of closing as duplicate, as maybe /sbin/weak-modules could avoid installing kvm-intel, ksm, and kvm-amd if it finds kvm.ko to be not compatible. I suppose it already avoids copying kvm.ko because it is not compatible? (In reply to comment #5) > This is the problem reported on bug #537331. D'oh. I mean bug #509361. This is not a bug in module-init-tools. The user in question installed a driver update package containing a driver intended for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 systems and higher. This package is known not to function correctly on releases prior to the minimum requirement of 5.4. Jon. This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for inclusion in the current release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Because the affected component is not scheduled to be updated in the current release, Red Hat is unfortunately unable to address this request at this time. Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to propose this request, if appropriate and relevant, in the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I am sorry but we cannot address this in RHEL5.6. I believe the situation is improved for packaging future combinations of drivers, especially in RHEL6. If you would like, you can re-open this bug and/or file against 6.1. |
