Description Michael Kearey 2009-12-02 22:27:09 UTC
Description of problem:
The RHN Satellite Installation Guide omitted detail that is potentially helpful for situations where network access is only available via a HTTP Proxy.

There is a KBase that describes a workaround and that detail should be in the Installation Guide to help avoid time and effort wasted

Additional info:

Customer began installing their new RHN Satellite after reading our RHN Satellite documentation. The documentation made no mention of any potential problems when installing the Satellite where the Internet access is via a HTTP Proxy. Customer encountered a problem during installation because the installer could not reach the RHN hosted service.

The problem the customer encountered could have been easily avoided if our RHN Satellite documentation stated that a direct connection to the Internet (so the Satellite can connect to RHN Hosted) is needed and that a HTTP Proxy cannot be used to access RHN Hosted during the installation of the Satellite

An amendment/change to the documentation is required - In Red Hat Network Satellite Installation Guide. We need to add the detail as described in http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-15867 . A good place to add it might be in the Additional Requirements section.
