samba's default configuration is "printing=sysv"
for redhat this should be set to "printing=bsd"

If this is not set, then printed documents go into the bit
bucket ... with no 'failure' messages logged in any of
the /var/log/samba logs or in /var/log/messages.

Fixed in the samba errata release.
