I had reported the same bug under Ubuntu before I realized that Red Hat and AMD are the major developers of the open-source 'radeon' driver.

This is the bug in Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 Beta1: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/541737

My videocard is: Ati Mobility X1600 (rv515).

Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue.

Please attach

* your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf, if available),
* output of the dmesg command,
* system log (/var/log/messages), and
* X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log)

to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link above.

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

Thanks in advance.

Looks pretty bad, but downgrading severity to medium, because at least your computer works somehow with nomodeset. We reserve higher severities for bugs, where computer doesn't work at all.

Comment 6 Miro Hadzhiev 2010-04-06 16:36:15 UTC
I won't be able to collect the required information with KMS on. Is it OK to do this with "radeon.modeset=0" option in the kernel boot line?

Comment 7 Miro Hadzhiev 2010-04-06 16:38:47 UTC
And one more thing which you can read also in the Ubuntu bug report... the videocard (rv515) worked fine in Lucid Alpha3 with KMS on (I was really happy about this because with KMS on, there is NOT anymore flickering while watching Flash-based clips).

of course

Comment 9 Miro Hadzhiev 2010-04-06 17:22:38 UTC
So:

1. there is NO "xorg.conf" file

Sorry but at the moment I'm using Win XP and I'll have to upload the files as archives in order to preserve their correct permission. ((((:

Here you are, Matej!

As Dave Airlie suggests in bug 579576 radeon.new_pll=0 should work around it. At least it does here on the same hardware.
FWIW 34-rc1 + rawhide kernels seem to also have this fixed.
