Description Jared Smith 2010-07-14 12:12:31 UTC
Description of problem:

The mediawiki spec file doesn't mark the mediawiki.conf configuration file as %config(noreplace), which can cause it to be overwritten during an upgrade.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

mediawiki-1.15.4-54

How reproducible:

Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install an older version of MediaWiki
2. Change the mediawiki.conf file
3. Upgrade to the latest MediaWiki package

Actual results:

Configuration file gets rewritten, blowing away any changes.

Expected results:

Configuration file should not be overwritten.

Additional info:

Unfortunately, this problem caused problems with the Git Wiki. See http://www.spinics.net/lists/git/msg135057.html for more details.

well it caused problems with not only the Git Wiki, but with all wiki's on kernel.org.

I just got bitten by this when I applied software updates last week and it was upgraded to mediawiki-nomath-1.15.3-53.fc12. (I'm running Fedora 12, BTW.)
