Description of problem:
The python-twitter api in the current version is currently broken. Twitter does not support basic auth anymore and works only with OAuth, which isnt available in the current version of python-twitter. Please update to the one in the mercurial repo here http://python-twitter.googlecode.com/hg/ python-twitter
