How to reproduce
-----
1.  For some reason notification applet was visible but was not displaying notification icons
2.  started a second notification applet, next to the first.  Then stopped applet, because the icons still were not visible.
3.  Started a third applet on a different bar.  Icons did appear, but there was a crash.
4.  Error message asks me if I want to reload the applet.
