*** Bug 659931 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** This bug's description mentions two sosreports but there is no to be found here and then bug 659931 was closed as a duplicate of this bug. That bug has one attachment. Where are the other ones? Why was the other bug closed and not this one? Created attachment 467690 [details]
sosreport, various Xorg.0.log boot attempts using different kernel settings
oops ... had duplicate bug entries with the exception of the attachment. I inadvertently closed the one which had the attachment :-( I've attached the file - linlap01_bugreport.tar.gz which contains the logs mentioned previously.
I have an HP Pavilion DM4-1060US. If I remove rhgb quiet from the boot line, it appears that the blank screen begins when the kernel initially configures the console framebuffer. Once the full X server starts via gdm, display is visible. Similar to Description above, adding nomodeset to the kernel command line causes the boot messages to remain visible, although X cannot start because it depends on kernel modesetting in order to operate. Attempts to increase display brightness with F3 and (Modifier Key+)F3 don't seem to help while it is dark - it stays dark. I wonder if this may be a backlight subsystem issue with this particular laptop. Running: kernel 2.6.35.6-48.fc14.x86_64 Created attachment 470229 [details]

This issue occurs with both the 64bit and 32bit versions of F14 x86 (In reply to comment #22) > This issue occurs with both the 64bit and 32bit versions of F14 x86 A workaround is to close the laptop screen (forcing the screen into sleep mode) and to open it again (waking the screen), this restores the display. After this, the screen brightness controls work as it should. This also happens on a HP G72 i3 17" except the workround fails. This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping |
