I've fixed it. The point was that i've not realized that 'gnome-shell' starts as the default for gnome. With the nv-driver you see only a a desktop with non-funtion. As i enable the nouveau-driver i was surprised that i'm in gnome3. But there is something to do to get it stable. ;o)) 0) I'm not sure if NOTABUG is the correct resolution. 1) Similar situation (ie, an almost entirely non-functional Gnome desktop) here with a system that doesn't have gnome-shell installed. I'll record the key diagnostic of the error here and a workaround (for the convenience of others running into this). Key diagnostic of error: grep gnome-session .xsession-errors gnome-session[...]: WARNING: Unable to find provider 'gnome-shell' of required component 'windowmanager' gnome-session[...]: WARNING: Unable to find provider 'gnome-shell' of required component 'panel' Workaround: cp /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/classic-gnome.session .config/gnome-session/sessions/gnome.session Results: A working Gnome desktop using metacity (as window-manager) and gnome-panel (as panel) instead of (not installed) gnome-session (for both functions) Filed https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=639836 upstreams. Can you help me? > > Results: > A working Gnome desktop using metacity (as window-manager) and gnome-panel (as > panel) instead of (not installed) gnome-session (for both functions) Sorry to add to the initial bug report, but ... I had this problem as well. After today's update I lost gnome shell as outlined in the first report by raveit65 GDM starts, login seems normal, but gnome would merely set the background without starting gnome-shell. I was using the nvidia-kmod as I am having lockups with the nouveau driver. I removed the nvidia-kmod, reinstalled the kernel 2.6.38.8-32.fc15.x86_64 and gnome-shell is working with nouveau. I will update my nouveau bug report if my problem with lockups is resolved (too early to tell). Hope this helps in identifying the problem with this particular report;) I am not seeing the behavior reported by Paul Bolle (when gnome-shell was broken I was able to start Fluxbox without a problem and I did not see his errors in my .xsession-errors). -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers |
