And this happens when I try to turn Gnome shell on in desktop-effects.
This is completely expected on GF100 chipsets, there is no acceleration provided thus far. I'll use this bug as a placeholder for all GF100 NoAccel-related bugs. Current upstream status is that acceleration is available for these chipsets, but only if the user goes to the trouble of tracing, and extracting a number of firmware blobs from the NVIDIA binary driver. F15 has most of the pieces in place, and is only lacking a newer version of mesa for 3D driver support (again, only with the firmware). this is the firmware we definitely can't ship in Fedora, yes? *** Bug 679718 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 679547 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I am not a lawyer, but I would surmise definitely not. There's no question of this firmware being actual code, where the nv40/nv50 context programs were closer to being a register list. ben, what's current status on this? support pieces are in place but you have to install the firmware to make it work? (In reply to comment #7) > ben, what's current status on this? support pieces are in place but you have to > install the firmware to make it work? Yep, that's pretty much it. I've *just* started work on a replacement firmware, but it's a large undertaking and not likely it'll make it in time for F15. This is now fixed in both F16 and rawhide, closing. |
