Description of problem:
I'm using liveCD on usb stick from:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2011-02-22_Nouveau
When logging in and starting Gnome 3, it starts in fallback mode

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-2.6.38-0.rc5.git5.1.fc15.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-nouveau-0.0.16-19.20110216git42c16ff.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot fedora test day liveCD from usb stick
2. Leave boot options default
3. Log in as liveuser
  
Actual results:
Gnome 3 starts in fallback mode.

Expected results:
Since this it GeForce card, Gnome shell should start.

This is completely expected on GF100 chipsets, there is no acceleration provided thus far.  I'll use this bug as a placeholder for all GF100 NoAccel-related bugs.

Current upstream status is that acceleration is available for these chipsets, but only if the user goes to the trouble of tracing, and extracting a number of firmware blobs from the NVIDIA binary driver.

F15 has most of the pieces in place, and is only lacking a newer version of mesa for 3D driver support (again, only with the firmware).

I am not a lawyer, but I would surmise definitely not.  There's no question of this firmware being actual code, where the nv40/nv50 context programs were closer to being a register list.

ben, what's current status on this? support pieces are in place but you have to install the firmware to make it work?

Yep, that's pretty much it.  I've *just* started work on a replacement firmware, but it's a large undertaking and not likely it'll make it in time for F15.
