How to reproduce
-----
1.  Opened a terminal 
2.  ran mplayer to play a song, sound was screeched/scratchy
3.  tried to adjust with alsamixer -c 0 command and it segfaulted

I no longer get the segmentation error, but I still hear screechy sound :(  What could I adjust to get my normal sound back?
