Description Zach Carter 2011-04-20 18:38:54 UTC
Description of problem:
When I go into Add a Wired Connection, click IPv4 Settings, then Add under Addresses, I am unable to enter static IP information. gtk gives warnings about ui_to_setting

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Network Settings, IPv4 tab
2.Change from DHCP to Manual
4.Click Add under Addresses
3.Try to enter a Static IP: the information is never saved in the widget.

Actual results:
nothing is accomplished, the IP information is lost.

Expected results:
The IP information should be saved and used to configure the interface.

Additional info:
The gtk errors are:
** (nm-connection-editor:7462): WARNING **: ui_to_setting: IPv4 address '' missing or invalid!

** (nm-connection-editor:7462): WARNING **: Invalid IPv4 Settings

This renders my system unusable without resorting to manual command line configuration, since there is no dhcp on this subnet.

Some more data. The new 'em1' interface was automatically set up so I can see it in 'ifconfig -a', however there is no corresponding file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-em1

Running 'system-config-network' also fails to find any interface to configure, despite it being visible in the 'ifconfig' output.

Hi Zach Carter, after you type the IP don't click on the next field but press Enter.

Comment 3 Zach Carter 2011-04-21 16:43:21 UTC
Hmm, ok. Thanks for the tip. I guess it we could chalk it up to a 'me' problem, though in my defence there weren't any instructions that I could find for how to interact with the widget properly. Perhaps the usability could be improved by using good old fashioned text entry boxes.

I guess this bug can be closed unless someone wants to use it to post a howto doc or release note.

This looks like a duplicate of Bug 692676.

Comment 5 Zach Carter 2011-04-21 18:55:53 UTC
Yeah, I saw that bug, but it was submitted against rawhide not F15, and I wasn't sure it was the same problem.
