Is the Send/Receive button on the toolbar grayed out, and/or do you get notices about being in offline mode when you start Evolution? If you're not using NetworkManager, check if you have the evolution-NetworkManager package installed and uninstall it. Thank you for your quick reaction. No it is not grayed out. It is available and I can start the check all email feature as well as start the single account retrieval by choosing it from the menu. Evolution simply says "Waiting ..." Nothing else. The mentioned package is not installed. Only 'NetworkManager-glib' but if I try to remove it, I would loose many programs, from eclipse to shotwell. If I can avoid it... I set: Server type: to POP Server: to the dns name without protocol prefix or port appendix Encryption to none, but SSL is supported Network Connection to direct connection to network My first question is, why is it not asking for my password? Recent news: I tried to do exactly the same with my wife's account and it worked there: The account password dialog pops up, evo can check the features of the server (authentification). I have no data to loose anymore. What can I do to reset evolution completely. It must have to do with my account? Sounds like it's never making contact with the POP3 server. Could be something as silly as the server name misspelled.
You could try running Evolution from a terminal window like so:
CAMEL_DEBUG=pop3 evolution
this will cause it to print communication with the POP3 server to standard output, so maybe you can see if it's actually contacting the server and where it's getting hung up.
FYI, the password dialog won't appear until you get an authentication challenge from the POP3 server. If you're never making contact with the server, that would explain why you don't get the dialog. Mh. could be. I verified it right now. I can reach the server via telnet pop3.web.de 110 without any problems. Your debug statements brought no output at all. I tried CAMEL_DEBUG=all and got only database statements. In meantime I have logged out, cleaned up everything again and tried again. No success yet. I have tried doing the same under KDE, no success too. One new question: If I click on my name, system settings, network, I get a message saying "this application is not supported by the version of your system" and airplane mode is turned on. Switching it off has no effect. Next time I enter this dialog, it is on again. My network is configured via system-config-network, as I have two networks active and NetworkManager did not support this, at least it was trying to manage one network connecion only. Does Evolution respect the airplane mode of gnome? Why does it work on my wifes account. I have removed all traces of Evo I could find... So I think it must be a misconfiguration of my account, that is not dependent of the window manager... I fixed it: I have searched in gconf for all network settings and removed (reset to default) all existing registered network interfaces and proxies. This did not change the flightmode issue, but it might be a NetworkManager feature that does not work without the backend. Evolution works as I know it. Thank you for your quick support! |
