Description Horst H. von Brand 2011-11-04 12:33:02 UTC
Description of problem:
fedora-logos contains /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz, which is obsolete (the directory /boot/grub belonged to grub-1, with grub2 it has no use anymore)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
fedopra-logos-16.0.2-1.fc16.noarch

How reproducible:
Each time you look for that file it is there, dunno if it is there if you don't look.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. ls /boot/grub
2.
3.

Actual results:
splash.xpm.gz

Expected results:
No such directory

Additional info:

Comment 1 Jens Petersen 2012-08-27 08:27:00 UTC
Still true for fedora-logos-17.0.2-5.fc18

Comment 2 Jens Petersen 2012-08-27 08:28:30 UTC
Still having /boot/grub/ around is annoying for auto-completion since
it interrupts shell completion of /boot/grub2/.

Comment 3 Tom "spot" Callaway 2012-08-27 16:34:04 UTC
I think that the Amazon Fedora EC2 image is still using a grub-1 config file, I'm not sure if it uses the splash.xpm.gz or not.

Comment 4 Jens Petersen 2012-08-30 04:38:44 UTC
Ah I see - who to ask about the EC2 image?

Comment 5 Jens Petersen 2012-08-30 04:41:31 UTC
If it is still needed perhaps the file could be subpackaged and
then grub-1 or the EC2 .ks file could be made to require it say?

Comment 10 Tim Flink 2012-09-14 17:36:41 UTC
This is not a bug for F16 and F17 on UEFI systems.

While BIOS systems have transitioned to grub2, the first Fedora release that uses grub2 for UEFI will be Fedora 18. The removal of the splash file causes grub errors (cannot find file /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz) on UEFI systems running either F16 or F17.

Filed as rhbz#857523, negative karma submitted for F16 and F17 updates.

Comment 11 Tom "spot" Callaway 2012-09-14 17:57:50 UTC
Okay. I'll kill off the f16 and f17 versions of this update.

Comment 12 Fedora Update System 2012-09-17 22:09:25 UTC
fedora-logos-17.0.2-6.fc18 has been pushed to the Fedora 18 stable repository. If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report.

Comment 13 Jens Petersen 2012-09-21 04:31:35 UTC
I just note that this change seems to break spinning f18 live images currently after F18-Alpha. :-|

But if F18 Live will use grub2 then maybe this will get fixed that way?

Comment 14 Tom "spot" Callaway 2012-09-21 16:50:42 UTC
Please open that as a bug against whatever tool is trying to copy that file. EFI shouldn't be using the old grub1 bits in F18.

Comment 15 Jens Petersen 2012-09-22 12:28:14 UTC
Yes, actually I think it is fixed now in latest livecd-tools. :)
