I forgot there was a glibc update yesterday, and something about having two glibcs in use did this.  (I happened to check "needs-restarting" later and everything from systemd on down came up.)  It went away after a reboot.

Uhm, no, glibc has absolutely nothing with this. I'm also seeing this bug, rebooting indeed makes it go away for a while, but after some time it comes back!

This is clearly a upower bug, since the output from upower itself is also nonsense. Reassigning.

Hmmm, actually, in my case, the nonsense is different:

On my Notebook (AsMobile S37E), it's reporting fully charged, but a percentage very very far from 100%:

Actually, my issue cannot be the same as bug #732239 because that one is on F15 and F15 worked fine for me.

Just like for the original reporter here, for me, the trouble started after upgrading to F16.

Sorry about that, glibc has caused me so much grief in the F16 cycle I just assumed it was playing tricks on me again.  I'll keep an eye out and see if I can repro it.

Hmmm, looking more at it, there's another difference between your report and mine. In your case, the readings from the plasmoid and from upower do not match, while in mine, they do (and are both wrong)! But that's strange, as the battery plasmoid normally only displays what upower tells it. The closer I look into this, the more I think that the bugs are different.

I filed https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=753679 for my problem now.

For the original issue here, I wonder whether upower was reporting different data when queried by the plasmoid than when you queried it or whether the plasmoid is mangling the data.

I'm going to reassign this back to kdebase-workspace for now, until/unless we can prove that upower is really reporting wrong data for you. (But I still don't think glibc had anything to do with it and I strongly suspect it's going to show up again sooner or later.)

I am also experiencing this; for some reason, the plasmoid doesn't correctly display the battery state and percentage. Investigating...

Strange, I can't reproduce this under any condition now, however I remember it has happened to me in the past. Please try to find out the exact scenario under which to reproduce this.

I am getting this behavior with upower-0.9.15 under KDE 4.7.4. Like the
above upower 0.9.14 seems to work. In both cases gtkrellm battery monitor
is showing the correct charge. Please reopen! Thanks.
