I'm having the same problem since the latest batches of upgrades to things like
the new kernel and ypserv. (Upgraded between 21 27 October, 2002)

Duplicate of bug #76446.

Comment 4 thomas_j_cobb 2002-10-30 19:18:01 UTC
I had exactly the same problem as cmiltonperl. EXACT same message.
Further info I was using BCOM_WAN_V20_RH73_RPM_A.tar.gz from dell on prvious
version of 7.3. it was working but i would get an error 2 trying to use ONBOOT=yes
and ONDEMAND dialing wasn't working. I had to rin ifup pp0 at prompt to
initialize modem. A bit of a hassle since I have RH set up as a router to the
net, but it did work. After updating the interface would not activate, so I
removed it from network configuration and tried to readd it. That's when I got
the error. I am currently trying to reconfigure ppp0 manually but as you know
it's a hassle i.e. the reason for a wizard. Would RH 8.0 help? I just bought RH
7.3 not nowing 8.0 was out. I really don't want to DL 5 cd iso's over 56k right
now, but I will if necessary.
By the way this is a DELL 4500S machine bad choice since the video isn't
supported either, oh well I get to relearn 'NIX really well again I guess.
Any help would be appreciated.

Comment 5 thomas_j_cobb 2002-10-31 12:44:14 UTC
I resolved this by unistalling the kernel update ver 17. I also removed and
updated mozilla 0.9 and upgraded to 1.0.1 which required doing evolution and
nautilus as well, (a lot of interdepedencies) I don't think I had to but did
anyway. It also fixed my problem with the BMC modem as the RPM i had was
compiled for the ver 3 update, I should've looked.

Comment 6 Harald Hoyer 2002-11-04 12:54:25 UTC
first beta of erratum is available at:
ftp://people.redhat.com/harald/redhat-config-network/1.0.1-1/

Most of the bugs reported have been removed, but as in every software change,
there could be new bugs introduced.

Please report bugs against this with explicitly stating the 1.0.1 version... Thx
and please test.
