Description of the problem: after a fresh installation of Fedora 16 there is no sound. The audio controller is correctly detected and all settings can be adjusted (including volume). Everything is fine except there is no output.

Solution of the problem: create a .conf file in /etc/modprobe.d with the following line: "options snd-hda-intel model=generic".
Reboot and the audio works as it should (no other adjustments needed).

Kernel: kernel-3.1.0-7.fc16.x86_64 through kernel-3.3.2-1.fc16.x86_64
Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)

How reproducible: install Fedora 16

Additional info: Scientific Linux 6 had been installed on this computer. Up until kernel 2.6.32-131.21.1.el6.x86_64 there was no problem with the audio. When kernel 2.6.32-220.2.1.el6.x86_64 was released the same problem appeared (and the same solution worked).

Kernel 3.6.2-1.fc16 has just been pushed to updates.
This update is a significant rebase from the previous version.

Please retest with this kernel, and let us know if your problem has been fixed.

In the event that you have upgraded to a newer release and the bug you reported
is still present, please change the version field to the newest release you have
encountered the issue with.  Before doing so, please ensure you are testing the
latest kernel update in that release and attach any new and relevant information
you may have gathered.

I am not using Fedora anymore, so not able to test this.
As far as I am concerned, this bugreport can be closed.
