Description Tom Horsley 2012-06-12 01:13:08 UTC
Description of problem:

I just got my clean install of fedora 17 running as my default boot and I
was trying to pair with a bluetooth device that supports RFCOMM, and the
bluetooth-wizard constantly failed when I tried to do the pairing.

So, I decided to try an end-run around the wizard and rsynced the
fedora 16 /var/lib/bluetooth directory to my fedora 17 /var/lib/bluetooth.

One reboot later, and I have no problem creating the rfcomm0 device
and opening it and talking serial, so there is apparently no problem
talking bluetooth, only a problem doing the initial pairing.

Where the bug actually is, I have no idea, but since bluetooth-wizard
is the user facing side where the bug is reported (constantly says
"failed to connect"), I figured I'd start out reporting the bug against
that.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-bluetooth-3.4.0-2.fc17.x86_64

How reproducible:

Tried several times to pair the device both as ordinary user and as root,
and it always failed to pair with no real useful information printed.
Sometimes the wizard would briefly flash some message like "type 314159"
into the device, but never long enough to actually even read the number,
then it would report failure.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.run bluetooth wizard
2.fail to pair device
3.

Actual results:
constant failure

Expected results:
paired device

Additional info:

Here's a grep for the device ID in the /var/lib/bluetooth/00:1C:F0:6C:4A:8E/
directory:

I'm talking bluetooth via a D-Link bluetooth dongle which lsusb shows
as:

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2013-07-03 20:35:05 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '17'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the
'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2013-07-31 20:43:19 UTC
Fedora 17 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-07-30. Fedora 17 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
