This could be considered Beta blocker or least NTH on the grounds that we need community to test all applications properly before Final release. If we don't include them, most of the testers probably won't install them manually and therefore will not test them. anaconda's just following what's in comps here. gnome-apps, gnome-media, epiphany, and libreoffice are listed as options. If they ought to be installed for everyone, they should be listed as required groups, not as options. We're not going to second guess comps. Discussed at 2012-10-11 blocker review meeting: http://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-qa/2012-10-11/f18beta-blocker-review-3.1.2012-10-11-16.04.log.txt . We are agreed that, while there may be questions over this topic of what the default package selection is and how sub-groups should be defined and presented, it's clearly not a blocker issue. It does not hit any of the Beta criteria. The criteria basically require a working desktop with a terminal and a web browser, and the current group certainly delivers that. So this is rejected as a blocker. Isn't there a way how to specify in comps that some groups are options, but they should be selected by default, with a possibility to unselect them? anaconda can then use this, packagekit (or some more advanced gui apps, like software-center) can use it, etc. I heard desktop team has some say about what should be included in a default GNOME installation. CCing Matthias. (In reply to comment #4) > Isn't there a way how to specify in comps that some groups are options, but > they should be selected by default, with a possibility to unselect them? Not currently. That would be a matter of code. > anaconda can then use this, packagekit (or some more advanced gui apps, like > software-center) can use it, etc. See http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2012-October/172188.html - we have enough issues with consistent use of metadata as-is. That being said, there was a discussion on #fedora-desktop today about what to do here, and comps and spin-kickstarts has been adjusted - much of the contents of gnome-apps and gnome-media is now in the basic gnome group. Most of the applications are installed from F18 RC4 DVD. Closing. |
