Description of problem:
Background transparency not working properly

mate-terminal-1.4.0-4.fc17

How reproducible:always


Steps to Reproduce:
1.open mate-terminal
2.edit--->profile preferences-->Background  
3.in Background section select Transparent Background
  
Actual results:
Its not showing the window that is opened at the back of terminal

Expected results:
being transparent it should show the window opened at the back of terminal

What are you using as a display manager? Or what is your secondary DE? Gnome? KDE? LXDE?

I'm not seeing libmate? 

Did you install each package one by one by hand? 

If so please do a yum reinstall @mate-desktop

No its there libmate-1.4.0-12.fc17.i686, 14th line

I followed the process as described on wiki

Do you have gtk2-engines installed? If not try installing that and rebooting.

I can reproduce the issue here when logged into a mate session, however it works fine in a cinnamon session

I doubt that mate-terminal is at fault here.

This is working fine on F18.

I need to look into why this is happening on F17. Could be selinux, dbus, dbus-sharp or a few other things. Comps for MATE on F17 is different than F18. I'll dig deeper.

F18 behaves the same as F17.
Try reading the previos link I posted, YOU NEED COMPOSITING FOR TRUE TRANSPARENCY.


Therefore I'm closing this report as NOTABUG.

if comiz is required for that feature then it should be added as a dependency or
if that's not possible then you can close it with CANTFIX

A solution to this issue is 


yum install xcompmgr


then add xcompmgr to the startup applications, use xcompmgr -n as the command

@leigh scott yeah its working now but still  have some doubts, why xcompmgr is not added in the dependencies and Dan said its working in Fedora 18...Strange

I have looked into it futher, mate-window-manager (metacity fork) provides composite 

for 1.5.0 version (uses gsettings)

gsettings set org.mate.Marco.general compositing-manager true


For F17 you will need to look in mate-conf-editor
