Thanks for a bug report. I see all the background processes idle, only the evolution process is busy in getting a sender's photo from an address book (but, as I said, the address book factory is idle, not working on anything), thus it seems like a response of the request to the addressbook got lost. Also, I do not see the message sending itself in the backtrace, which can be caused by an async operation, which do not show up in backtraces. I made this [1] change for 3.8.0, which should help a bit, but not on the lost response, only on a piling photo lookup requests. I moved this upstream, as [2]. Please see [2] for any further updates. *** Bug 888661 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 888682 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Disable both checkboxes? Once you uncheck the first, the second will be disabled, which means its value doesn't influence the behaviour. In other words, unchecking the first option should stop doing the photo lookups (definitely the next start of evolution, in case there is any pending photo lookup already). I thought you do search in EWS books too, but the screen shot shows that you instruct evolution with local book search only, which is strange to me. By the way, when you open Contacts view, how many books do you see there under On This Computer? Do have each of them at least one contact filled there? *** Bug 889708 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 890055 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 890873 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Created attachment 674145 [details]

OK, so you've one On This Computer/Personal address book. The evolution searched in that one only. How many contacts the Personal book contains? Created attachment 674329 [details]

And also very strange why I still not found any contact in GAL? Created attachment 674330 [details]

Thanks for the update. So your Personal book is empty. I'm writing this to the upstream bug, because it seems to make the difference. With respect the GAL, the screen shot shows "Search for the Contact" in the view where the contacts are usually known. I see at the top that you have set "Any field contacts" search type. The thing is that the GAL is browsable only if it is cached for offline (check the option in Mail account preferences). Note it is a different option than cache for offline in the Book Properties. In case you do not have the GAL set for offline, then only the "Email" search works, thus click the magnifier icon in the Show entry and pick the "Email begins with" filter, then write a prefix of the email you want to get, and press Enter, the view should be populated will all matching contacts on the server. You can write your own filter, as an Advanced Search, the only rule is to use the EMail filter type. Created attachment 674660 [details]

(In reply to comment #26) > With respect the GAL, the screen shot shows "Search for the Contact" in the > view where the contacts are usually known. Note it is a different option than cache for offline in the > Book Properties. > I enabled "Cache offline address book" option, but nothing happens (only the "Email" search works) I'm not sure, but I think there is a some bug in ews, when you enable offline caching, with selected Global Address List (just like you have in the screen shot), then it requires restart of all evolution processes. Or there might be missing some patch backport from master. I do not recall precisely now, I'm sorry. I am restart computer, and I see this: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B0nwzlfiB4aQOG8yM0lIWU9rZHc Search by "Any fields contains" occurs "This query did not complete successfully. GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._e_2dbook_2dbackend_2dsqlitedb_2derror_2dquark.Code0: no such column: x" error Only works search by "Name contains" and "Email begins". And without any filter I still not see contacts. Aha, I see, it's new to me. It'll be good to open a new bug report upstream, against evolution-ews, if it's not filled yet.
