Description David Woodhouse 2013-07-20 20:06:02 UTC
When shotwell imports .mp4 video files from my camera, I just get a film reel as a thumbnail, instead of a still from the video.

This doesn't appear to be because of a missing codec; all the relevant codecs should be installed — and if they weren't, then I should be seeing PackageKit trying to install them and/or some kind of error/warning message if it fails.

Comment 1 David Woodhouse 2013-07-20 20:08:03 UTC
[dwmw2@shinybook 20]$ shotwell-video-thumbnailer 20130720_202046.mp4
Failed to play the file: couldn't get state.

Comment 2 David Woodhouse 2013-07-20 20:13:49 UTC
FWIW totem-video-thumbnailer works on these files.

Duplicate of bug 891342?

Comment 4 David Woodhouse 2013-07-22 15:14:21 UTC
Comparing comment 1 here with https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=891342#c1 there, I'd suggest not.

Comment 7 David Woodhouse 2013-07-24 20:50:20 UTC
Per discussion in the upstream bug, this appears to be a gstreamer problem.

Comment 8 David Woodhouse 2013-09-18 03:45:05 UTC
Not a gstreamer bug. Fix at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=708034#c4

Comment 9 David Woodhouse 2013-09-20 05:21:11 UTC
Fixed scratch build at http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=5959460

Comment 10 David Woodhouse 2013-09-20 16:40:49 UTC
The fix is http://git.yorba.org/cgit.cgi/shotwell/commit/?id=0dc2ce3c

Any chance of this in a F19 update please? I'm happy enough to do it myself it you prefer.
