Description Christopher Granade 2013-08-07 18:25:58 UTC
Description of problem:
The python3-ipython-console.fc18 package does not depend on python3-setuptools.fc18 package, such that if yum is used to install an Python 3 version of IPython, setuptools is not brought in automatically. This can lead to an ImportError being raised when IPython tries to import pkg_resources.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Ensure that python3-setuptools is not installed.
2. 'yum install python3-ipython-console'
3. 'ipython3'

Actual results:
$ ipython3
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/ipython3", line 5, in <module>
    from pkg_resources import load_entry_point
ImportError: No module named 'pkg_resources'

Expected results:
$ ipython3
Python 3.3.0 (default, Sep 29 2012, 22:07:38)
Type "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.

IPython 0.13.2 -- An enhanced Interactive Python

Additional info:
The metapackage python3-ipython correctly installs python3-setuptools as a dependency.

Fixed in git. Unable to build for other reasons at the moment (will be fixed soonish).

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2013-12-21 15:48:06 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 18 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 18. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '18'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be
able to fix it before Fedora 18 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior to Fedora 18's end of life.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.
