Description Evert Verhellen 2003-08-06 20:43:13 UTC
Description of problem:
Selecting an OpenGL screen saver (e.g. `Gears') may significantly drag down
display performance on a large desktop such as 1600 x 1200 when using a
relatively slow GPU. However, 3D display performance is usually still acceptable
on a small desktop such as 640 x 480.

What I suggest is that the Screensaver Preferences dialog should support the
entry of an alternative screen resolution (such as in the Screen Resolution
Preferences dialog) on the Advanced tab which xscreensaver should temporarily
switch to before activating the chosen screen saver.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xscreensaver-4.07-2.src.rpm

Red Hat is not going to add something like this specifically to just our
packages, and I doubt we'd allocate the resources to do this in the upstream
sources. I'd suggest talking to upstream for xscreensaver, and see if they're
interested in the feature.
