Doc Type: Bug Fix
Doc Text:
Previously, the 'Soft-limit exceeded' alert log messages were logged only in the brick log files making it difficult to check if the quota soft-limit had exceeded. With this fix, executing the 'gluster volume quota <VOLNAME> list' command is sufficient to check if soft-limit and hard-limit have exceeded.

Red Hat Product Errata RHEA-2014:0208 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE Red Hat Storage 2.1 enhancement and bug fix update #2 2014-02-25 12:20:30 UTC

Description Saurabh 2013-10-18 10:44:35 UTC
Description of problem:

Presently as per quota implementation that we have, it says that after the default-soft-limit on a certain is crossed there will be a alert in the gluster related logs.

The alert message "A" presently can be sometimes seen in the brick logs.

Also, as per the implementation the brick logs will have the "A" only if the write comes. In some cases this has been seen and there are cases there is no alert message at all.

Other than this, there may be cases where the number of bricks for a volume can be many, lie having more than 10 or 100 bricks.

Hence, a system administrator will have to do lot of work to find in which brick the alert message related to a path after crossing the soft-limit has been logged.

This does not seem to proper.

Therefore, it will be appreciable if there is alert logging to be present in client logs. Like in nfs.log/ fuse mount logs etc.

Comment 6 Saurabh 2014-01-03 10:43:55 UTC
tested in based on comment 3 ,

so as per that it works,
[root@quota5 ~]# gluster volume quota dist-rep1 list
                  Path Hard-limit Soft-limit Used Available Soft-limit exceeded? Hard-limit exceeded?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
/ 20.0GB 80% 20.1GB 0Bytes Yes Yes
/2 10.0GB 80% 9.9GB 71.1MB Yes No

hence moving it to verified, glusterfs-3.4.0.53rhs-1.el6rhs.x86_64
