gnome-shell hangs. reporter: libreport-2.1.8 backtrace_rating: 4 cmdline: /usr/bin/gnome-shell crash_function: g_slist_find executable: /usr/bin/gnome-shell kernel: 3.11.4-201.fc19.x86_64 package: gnome-shell-3.8.4-2.fc19 reason: Process /usr/bin/gnome-shell was killed by signal 11 (SIGSEGV) runlevel: N 5 type: CCpp uid: 1000
I did the following steps: 1. I clicked on "Activities". 2. I clicked on the icon "Show applications" on the toolbar that appeared on the left. The gnome shells shows the list of recently used apps. 3. I clicked on the button "All" at the bottom. The shells crashed and restarted automatically. It tried the downgrade to gnome-shell 3.8.3. That behaves in the same way.
Happened to me when pressing the meta key, and typing "ge" The gedit logo appears (but sometimes not, it can show gedit without a logo, depending on how fast I type) and then gnome-shell crashes. I can still reproduce this.
(In reply to Thomas Neuber from comment #13) > I did the following steps: > > 1. I clicked on "Activities". > > 2. I'm getting the same issues, including whenever I press the meta key. Ironically it's working fine when I log in as root through the session manager at the login screen.
I've since created a new user and the bug is not present in the new settings at this point.
I tried both alternatives from comment #15 and comment #16. It crashed in both cases.
In the last days the system performance degraded more and more. I was shocked about sys log that grew between 20 and 350 MB per day. There tons of critical clutter messages (see bug #957363). As a consequence I uninstalled the following packages: - gnome-classic-session - gnome-shell-extension-alternate-tab - gnome-shell-extension-apps-menu - gnome-shell-extension-common - gnome-shell-extension-launch-new-instance - gnome-shell-extension-places-menu - gnome-shell-extension-window-list A now I cannot reproduce that issue anymore.
