Description Mario Blättermann 2013-10-28 16:34:45 UTC
Description of problem:
The man-pages-de package builds from sources which are released in 2006. The German man page translation project rests in peace for years.

The Debian people now maintain it [1]. They have reached version number 1.0, and the project is maintained continuously. The current tarball can be fetched from [2]. There are some significant changes:

* License has been changed to GPLv3+
* Autotools are now used for installation

Moreover, the package entrains some old stuff which can be safely dropped from all current branches, because we don't have no ones for EPEL <=6:

* The BuildRoot definition
* Initial cleaning of $RPM_BUILD_ROOT in %install
* The %clean section
* The %defattr line in %files

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
man-pages-de-0.5-10.fc19.noarch

Comment 1 Mario Blättermann 2013-10-31 16:51:32 UTC
The problem with using the new sources is that the install script downloads external resources. The tarball itself contains translations only, and the original man pages will be fetched from Debian packages. This way we won't be able to package it, because Koji denies external downloads. We still have to figure out how we can use local installed man pages instead of external ones.

Comment 2 Mario Blättermann 2013-10-31 16:55:22 UTC
Just FYI, the following Debian packages will be fetched:

binkd
coreutils
diffutils
fdutils
findutils
grep
groff-base
gzip
hostname
info
isdnlog
less
lilo
manpages
manpages-dev
mount
nfs-common
procps
sed
sysvinit
tar
util-linux
wodim

Comment 3 Mario Blättermann 2013-11-14 21:15:43 UTC
Obviously the current version 1.3 doesn't download Debian packages anymore. It seems to use locally installed man pages. Do you need help to set up the new sources? I could try to create a new spec file. I general, I'm German, and the German man page versions could need a German maintainer. I'm involved in the upstream translations anyway, so it might be a good idea to become a co-maintainer of man-pages-de.
