Created attachment 832933 [details] Xorg.0.log of graphical session for non-optimal resolution Description of problem: The affected machine has a mainboard reported as P4M89-M7A (from lshw-gui). The video chipset is a VIA series, managed by xorg-x11-drv-openchrome. The issue is that, even when the attached VGA monitor can do up to 1024x768, as reported by the EDID information, both the kernel (through vesafb) and Xorg choose to set up the screen at 800x600. I would normally use xrandr -s to switch to another resolution, but there is a separate xorg-x11-drv-openchrome but which I will report shortly. This is what xrandr reports when I boot into a graphical session without any kernel parameters and without any extra xorg configuration: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 800 x 600, maximum 2047 x 2047 VGA-1 connected primary 800x600+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 267mm x 200mm 800x600 85.1*+ 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 1024x768 60.0 832x624 74.6 640x480 85.0 75.0 72.8 66.7 59.9 720x400 70.1 I must note that Fedora 18 also has this problem. I used fedup to update the system from Fedora 18 to Fedora 19 in the hope of solving this issue, but to no avail. In particular, the Fedora 18 DVD installer boots into 800x600, and this resolution cause severe graphical misalignments in the installer dialogs that make it impossible to use the custom-partitioning dialog. I had to boot into safe graphics mode, which selects 1024x768, in order to use the custom partitioning dialog. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xorg-x11-drv-openchrome-0.3.3-1.fc19.x86_64 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.14.4-3.fc19.x86_64 kernel-3.11.9-200.fc19.x86_64 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: The graphical session and the kernel console both choose a non-optimal resolution of 800x600. Expected results: The graphical session and the kernel console should choose at least 1024x768. Additional info:

This message is a notice that Fedora 19 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 19. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '19'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 19 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Still present in Fedora 21 x86_64 live CD.
