Description of problem: /usr/lib/rpm/macros.perl: __find_provides macro point to non existing file Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): tested on fc-17 to fc-19 at least How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: $grep __find_provides /usr/lib/rpm/macros.perl $ rpm --eval '%{_rpmconfigdir}/find-perl-provides' /usr/lib/rpm/find-perl-provides $ LC_ALL=C ls /usr/lib/rpm/find-perl-provides ls: cannot access /usr/lib/rpm/find-perl-provides: No such file or directory Actual results: Expected results: Point to the adequate helper script Additional info:
The file has nothing in common with perl-rpm-build-perl package: $ rpm -qf /usr/lib/rpm/macros.perl --qf '%{SOURCERPM}\n' rpm-4.11.1-3.fc19.src.rpm Reassigning to proper component.
Right... /usr/lib/rpm/macros.{perl,php,python} are mostly nothing but ancient cruft, for all practical purposes they've been untouched since their addition to upstream sources circa 10 years ago. The __find_* macros for perl have always pointed to non-existent files and redefining them this way wouldn't have been a very sane thing to do even back then, these days even less so. OTOH those macros dont actually affect anything unless the deprecated external dependency generator is used. Fixed upstream by removing the offending __find_* definitions -> CLOSED UPSTREAM as this doesn't seem worth specifically fixing in Fedora.
