Description of problem: After yum upgrade and when docking my laptop (Lenovo X230) which has two HDI connected monitors I get the first screen asking for password and then all screens (including my laptop screen) are black, no text, no errors. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Attach multiple screens and restart system when in docking station. Steps to Reproduce: 1. yum -y upgrade 2. reboot laptop when docked with 2x DVI connected monitors 3. first login screen appears, then black screens Actual results: No shell, just black screens. If i detach one screen and reboot, the laptop and 1x remaining DVI connected monitor will allow full login and screen GUI's appear as you would expect. Expected results: Prior to yum upgrade, I could dock my laptop and run 2x DVI connected monitors and the laptop screen with no issues. Additional info: I downgraded the kernel-devel and kernel-headers to version "3.11.4-101.fc18.x86_64" but still 2x DVI attached monitors do not display. I'm now working with only 1x DVI attached monitor and my laptop screen.
When I detach the laptop from the docking station after the black screen event, I see the following messages: [ 1.715305] systemd[1]: Job multipathd.service/start deleted to break orderin [ 3.225468] fcon_init: dectected unhandled fb_set_par error, error code -22
What graphics card and drivers do you use? When you plug the second DVI monitor in after successful login, are you able to correctly enable it?
Mind you too, this is reported against f18, where kscreen isn't used by default (yet).
Not sure how to discover specifically what graphics card and drivers are being used, can someone tell me how to find this out? If I plug in the 2nd DVI cable after the laptop has booted, the size & orientation box comes up allowing me to set how I want the 2nd monitor but when I do, all screens go black. This message is a reminder that Fedora 18 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 18. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '18'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 18 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
I've resolved the issues by upgrading to f20, now all screens are working!
Fedora 18 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2014-01-14. Fedora 18 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
