Description Dharmit Shah 2013-12-23 08:35:33 UTC
Description of problem:
Currently only VM image can be exported/imported on Glance Storage domain. We need the ability to export/import the templates to Glance Storage Domain as well.

Since Glance Storage Domain can be accessed by multiple DCs at the same time, this feature will help import/export templates to/from multiple DCs and the time it takes to attach and detach an Export Domain to individual DC can be saved.

Comment 1 Itamar Heim 2014-01-23 11:12:01 UTC
Dharmit - please note partial support for importing an image as a template (without ovf like metadata) is supported via bug 1053544 (ovirt 3.4)

Comment 2 Federico Simoncelli 2014-06-30 10:35:21 UTC
I suggest to block this on bug 1062492 for being able to link a glance ovf to multiple images.

Other option would be to add full ova support in glance (one single entry packing the ovf and multiple disks together).

Anyway it seems to me that ovf + links to image(s) is more flexible (e.g. it would be possible to import just one disk eventually) and easier to orchestrate from engine.

Comment 3 Federico Simoncelli 2014-07-11 20:50:40 UTC
I filed a glance blueprint to support compression on upload:

 https://blueprints.launchpad.net/glance/+spec/upload-http-compression

This will optimize the data transfer in the export case (especially for sparse images).

Daniel, don't we have this capability already?

Only for images. We don't support import/export ovf/ova.

Closing old RFEs, please reopen if still relevant.
