Description thomas meiner 2014-01-04 11:07:20 UTC
Description of problem:
Pulseaudio turns off analogue sound outline, after connection to a HDMI device. I've got one sound card in the computer. But ALSA finds tow devices on this card. Analog and HDMI. As long as there is no HDMI-TV/beamer connected, the analogue sound outline works great. After connecting a HDMI-beamer the sound outline on the HDMI-beamer works perfect, but the analogue sound outline stoops working. I don't know how to reactivate the analogue sound outline again. The analoge device isn't mute, it's deactivated. Disconnecting the beamer AND logout/relogin, reactivates the analogue sound outline.

The problem seams to arise from the PulseAudio profiles. If I comment all HDMI-sections in all the profiles in /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/, I get analogue sound outline only working. Independent from HDMI-beamer. This fixes my problem, because I need the analogue sound output all the time. But this is only a temporary fix. Nice would be, sound output (parallel) on analogue sound outline and HDMI at the same time.

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. login
2. start sound in a media player (VLC, Amarok...)
3. sound on analogue sound outline works
4. stop playback on media player
5. connect HDMI-TV/beamer
6. start sound in a media player again
7. sound on the HDMI only
8. stop playback on media player
9. disconnect HMDI-TV/Player
10. start sound in a media player again
11. no sound at all!
12. relogin resets the misbehaving sound-profile

Actual results:
Analogue sound outline stops working, when connection a HDMI-TV/beamer.

Expected results:
Parallel sound-output on HDMI AND analogue sound outline.

Additional info:
- In Fedora 18 there was no HDMI-sound support at all. The analogue sound outline didn't stop working.
- In Fedora 20: If I comment all HDMI-sections in all the profiles in /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/, I get analogue sound outline only working. Independent from HDMI-port.

Comment 1 Fedora End Of Life 2015-05-29 10:19:23 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2015-06-29 14:09:27 UTC
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
