Description poma 2014-01-11 08:32:01 UTC
Upgrading the kernel produces this message:
depmod: ERROR: Module 'hci_vhci' has devname (vhci) but lacks major and
minor information. Ignoring.

e.g. 3.13.0-0.rc7.git2.2.fc21.x86_64
i.e. Bluetooth virtual HCI driver ver 1.3

Comment 1 Michal Jaegermann 2014-01-14 19:55:58 UTC
kernel-3.13.0-0.rc8.git0.1.fc21, at least, is affected in the same way.

Comment 2 Josh Boyer 2014-01-14 20:13:15 UTC
It's not fixed upstream yet, so unless someone comments in this bug specifically saying it's fixed the issue is going to remain in newer kernels. It should be fairly benign.

Comment 3 Richard W.M. Jones 2014-02-05 11:08:58 UTC
Just a note that it is still happening in
kernel-3.14.0-0.rc1.git0.2.fc21.x86_64

However it seems to be benign. I'm not even sure what
the hci_vhci module does.

Comment 4 poma 2014-02-05 19:36:41 UTC
This at least explains why the message appears, at first place.

$ rpm -q kmod
kmod-16-1.fc21.x86_64

i.e.
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/utils/kernel/kmod/kmod.git/commit/tools/depmod.c?id=6506ddf5a37849049509324eeff72697f94584e3

Has anyone filed an upstream ticket for this?

Just a note that it is still happening in

 kernel.x86_64 0:3.14.0-0.rc4.git3.2.fc21

  kernel-modules-extra.x86_64 0:3.14.0-0.rc4.git3.2.fc21

message when you upgrade:
