If mkisofs fails, then it's a mkisofs bug. When/if it fails again, can you post the k3b log ?

Hi again Rex,

I don't know if you could read my latest email response because I don't see it here reflected. So I repeat the point:

I'm not sure if the problem is related to a bug in k3b or mkisofs because today I have made a clean install of Fedora 20 and the error today was "write error". I was dealing with this issue yesterday with a Fedora 20 updated from alpha and the errors yesterday was "mkisofs failed" and "write error"...

I yesterday tried k3b latest git source and latest Cdrtools without luck and many new bd-r discs wasted...

I have attached in my previous post what I think is k3b log of today failed session.

Thanks a lot,

Alberto.

In the log you attached to your original message, it's growisofs failing, not mkisofs. Reassigning to dvd+rw-tools where growisofs comes from.

K3b defaults to growisofs for BluRay burning on Fedora. Last I checked, wodim (cdrkit) did not support BluRay at all, and we cannot ship cdrecord (cdrtools) for licensing reasons.

Hello again,

I still have no luck burning blank blu-ray discs using k3b. Maybe this problem is related to other bug I reported before.
See: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1038650

Thanks a lot,

Alberto Segura.

Success recording dvd+r disc according to k3b log

The problem only occurrs burning blank blu-ray discs. My device works well burning a dvd+r disc. I don't know if the problem is caused by bad discs (Mediarange branded) but it is the brand of blu-ray disc I use to burn and sometimes they worked well.

Thanks,

Alberto.

Comment 8 Alberto Segura 2014-01-19 23:31:18 UTC
Today I was able to burn a blu-ray disc without problems using Nero Linux. I can discard defective blank media/burner and blame k3b or dvd+rw-tools.

Thanks,

Alberto.

I have experienced some errors during burning session using Nero linux too. I attach its log.

Nero for linux session error log.

Comment 11 Kevin Kofler 2014-01-20 15:40:33 UTC
So this looks a lot like defective or unreliable hardware to me. Nero uses completely different burning code from growisofs and it also fails. Looks like your first attempt with Nero happened to hit the one working medium, or happened to not trigger some intermittent issue with the burner.

Comment 12 Alberto Segura 2014-01-20 15:48:30 UTC
Hi Kevin,

It is a possibility, but I used to burn correctly (sometimes with some error) in Fedora 19 using K3b. Maybe the device fails sometimes. I will keep on trying!

:)

Thanks,

Alberto.

Comment 13 Fedora End Of Life 2015-05-29 10:26:53 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Hello,

Now I'm able to burn bds at low speed (4x) using k3b, you can close it...

Thanks,

Alberto.

Comment 15 Rex Dieter 2015-05-29 16:00:07 UTC
Thanks.

Comment 16 Richard Jasmin 2015-09-24 22:30:36 UTC
I have related ongoing issue to this that is NOT growisofs related(or so it seems) where it stops at 99% and fails to fixate the medium.Using optical quantums and LG 14/16 series bdrom drives. K3B always seems to error out here.I cannot check with hi-cap media as nobody has written the awkward 33GB shifted code yet.

xfburn doesnt have this problem.

And Im fresh out of blanks right now.

Comment 17 Alberto Segura 2015-09-25 13:55:26 UTC
I can burn bds using k3b latest f23b version with good quality disc (TDK for example) sorry for the ad, and selecting burning speed 4x for this kind of disks. I have no try with k3b "automatic" burning speed now, at first it fails when this bug was reported.

Thanks a lot,

Alberto.
