Description Robert Hancock 2014-01-26 03:24:56 UTC
Description of problem:
Opened YouTube video (uses Flash)
Made video full-screen
Hit Esc to leave full-screen
Hit Windows key to open overview (or I think also hit Alt-Tab)

This seems to be 100% reproducible. It has happened 6 times on my system so far. Pretty sure this is a recent regression.

Version-Release number of selected component:
gnome-shell-3.10.3-2.fc20

Another user experienced a similar problem:

This problem started when maximizing video in firefox. The system would log out with extensions disabled. Gnome-system-monitor stopped working, which started working after reinstall of the system- monitor. The window key on the keyboard would not open the dash. Yumex stopped responding. Gnome-shell-extension-user-theme and gnome-shell-extension-common are at 3.10.1-2-fc20 after the gnome-shell update of 3.10.3-2-fc20. Hope this provides a clue.

Normal operation, just started up GNOME. Seems more common with multiple monitors and Xrandr switching.

This was not occuring before updating the RPMs today. The system has been rebooted since these updates were applied.

System unstable since recent RPM changes.

May be related to multiple monitors.

May be related to development NVidia drivers.

Seems to be triggered by or shortly after fullscreen video or switching monitors.

I don't have a multi-monitor set-up, nor am I watching YouTube in Firefox, nor do I have a Nvidia card, contrary to the other reports - this crash just happens anywhere at any time, and often, since the last update to gnome-shell.

First, Fedora asked me to restart the system to install updates. I followed its instructions, and restarted the computer. I noticed that it got stuck at 55% for quite a while, so I left it and went to troubleshoot another (non-Fedora) computer. After returning, it was at the login screen. I entered my password, and immediately opened Firefox and started watching Youtube. At the start of each video, at about the 5-10 second mark, the screen freezes, starts glitching and then continues. If I exit fullscreen, then it says something about GNOME crashing. This sometimes occurs again in the video.

Watching a flash video on YouTube using Firefox and switched to full screen mode. The video plays for a few seconds, then all motion stops, but audio is still playing. Then I lose the ability to use ESC to exit out of full screen mode, the super key to access gnome is non responsive. The video then shutters and I have control again, with abrt notifying me that Gnome 3 crashed.

Some Videos aren't viewable except you turn fullscreen On(then that bug occurs).

I think the problem is going fullscreen then coming back to normal view then going to fullscreen.
After a little laps, problem occurs.

Unlike the users experiencing crashes doing specific actions and under specific circumstances, I experience at least one every hour without a discernible pattern anywhere in sight - or at least I did, until I downgraded gnome-shell using 'yum downgrade gnome-shell'.

Reverting back to gnome-shell-3.10.2.1-2 has stabilized my environment again.

For those users who want to lock that version in

rpm -Uvh gnome-shell-3.10.2.1-2.fc20.x86_64.rpm --force
yum install yum-versionlock
yum versionlock add gnome-shell

Experiments with 3.10.3-1 were generally unstable too, with Alt-TAB showing background windows (such as Conky), often with many more instances than actually running.

I am not sure how the problem occurred. I am new to Gnome 3 desktop. It may have been from switching windows up and down.

Another user experienced a similar problem:

It crashes intermittently during every day use of Gnome. It may crash when you start applications, open other windows, switch windows, log in into the Gnome session, etc, etc. Pretty much any active usage of gnome causes unexpected crashed. It happens several times a day, every single day.
Well.... after all how you name a boat, is how it will sail. "Heisenbug" is a self-explanatory name :)
