dpkg-checkbuilddeps exists but does not work, i.e. you get $ dpkg-checkbuilddeps dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: build-essential:native For dpkg-checkbuilddeps to work, you need a dpkg database on your system with the respective packages installed which dpkg-checkbuilddeps is looking for. This will hardly work on Fedora.
