Description Rejy M Cyriac 2014-02-12 10:29:46 UTC
Description of problem:
When RHSS is installed from a network share using kickstart, with only redhat-storage-server package in %packages section, the following two packages are missing from the default package install set on the installed system, when compared with an RHSS system installed using the RHSS ISO, or installed using RH Satellite server

cpuspeed
irqbalance

The %packages section in the kickstart file is as given below:
-------------------------------------------
%packages
redhat-storage-server
%end
-------------------------------------------

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHSS-2.1-20140211.0-RHS-x86_64-DVD1.iso

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Configure network share of RHSS ISO
2.Share over the network , the kickstart file
3.Install RHSS system using the kickstart file and the network shared ISO tree

Actual results:
The network share kickstart installed RHSS system, with only redhat-storage-server package in %packages section, has two packages missing - cpuspeed, irqbalance - from the default package install set, when compared with an RHSS system installed using the RHSS ISO, or installed using RH Satellite server.

Expected results:
The RHSS system kickstart installed from network share, with only redhat-storage-server package in %packages section, should have the same default package install set, as an RHSS system installed using the RHSS ISO, or installed using RH Satellite server.

Discussing this issue with Bala, we were able to figure out the probable root cause of the issue.

When installing RHSS using the RHSS ISO, the said packages are installed by default because these packages are included in the 'Red Hat Storage Tools' group in the yum comps for the ISO, and this 'Red Hat Storage Tools' group is used during the installation.

When installing RHSS using RH Satellite, the install method is to use the RHEL 6.4 install tree to install all the packages of the 'Base' yum group, and additionally install the redhat-storage-server package. The RHEL 6 comps 'Base' group definition has these packages included in it.

When kickstart installing RHSS using a network shared RHSS ISO tree, with only redhat-storage-server package in %packages section, these packages are not installed, because these packages do not have an entry in the yum 'Base' group included in the comps of RHSS ISO, nor are these packages dependencies of redhat-storage-server package.
