Created attachment 863175 [details]
screen shot of open applet with connection and the text Uitgeschakeld

Description of problem:

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
 0.9.9.0-8.git20140123.fc20

steps
initial: the broadband connection is reported as switch off (Uitgeschakeld)
1) connect to an previously provisioned broadband connection
2) wait until the connection is up

The applet still reports it is switched off (Uitgeschakeld) were in fact a connection was esteblished and is functioning.

Comment 1 Jirka Klimes 2014-02-14 09:40:48 UTC
The applet is part of gnome-shell, re-assigning to it.
Consider updating NetworkManager as you are using an old one, and gnome-shell as well.

You can check active connections in command line with:
$ nmcli con show active
or
$ nmcli con show -a (in latest NM version of testing repository)

Comment 2 Johannes 2014-02-14 10:41:47 UTC
Thanks Jirka

I believe this is the latest version that is offered in Fedora 20. Ran an update just now.

Is the problem with the gnome-shell or with NetworkManager? I do see a packages called yum-NetworkManager-dispatcher.noarch which is on 1.1.31-20

Comment 3 Johannes 2014-02-14 20:16:24 UTC
This could be a translation error. But we (dutch people) need to know.

# nmcli con show active

the menu still claims a switched off broadband modem (Uitgeschakeld)

Modem appears as switched off where it has a connection

In this settings dialog screen shot one can observe the broadband modem opperational with a DHCP assigned IP address and DNS server. Also the status is connected (verbonden). Yet, the switch appears as off (uit) not on (aan).

It seems the component is not able to obtain a proper status from the modem driver.

It appears not to be a translation error as both the menu and the dialog show a switched off modem.

Comment 7 Jirka Klimes 2014-02-18 08:11:34 UTC
nmcli shows that "Orange Internet Everywhere - Postpaid" connection is active.
So, that really seems like gnome-shell applet issue (the applet from the first picture) and gnome-control-center (the picture from comment #5).

It still may bee helpfull to see output of 'nmcli gen status'.

Comment 8 Fedora End Of Life 2015-05-29 10:55:25 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 9 Fedora End Of Life 2015-06-29 15:12:29 UTC
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
