Plot labels (displayed in the individual chart legends) are static strings - it has been pointed out that these would be more useful with the ability to expand hostname (%h), as can be done with the Title string. Perhaps %i and %m for the instance and metric names would be handy as well.
After some initial investigation, I've found that plot labels support %i (instance name) expansion via the configuration file. Its a bit limited though - it should be supported in the same way via interactive use, and it also "forgets" the initial setting, such that a "Save View" action later does not preserve the initial %i. Out of time for today though, these issues along with introduction of %h, %H and %m will have to wait for tomorrow.
This is resolved in upstream commit 4daa63fc... pcp-gui-1.5.12 will include this fix, planned to be released shortly. commit 4daa63fc78c256db9e6c930cf613331a93bae148 Author: Nathan Scott <nathans> Date: Wed Feb 19 17:56:25 2014 +1100 Chart legend updates, particularly allowing for additional wildcards Adds several new wildcards into the chart plot titles specification which was previously limited to just %i (instance name). This now adds in short and long forms of host, metric and instance name. The full list is documented via updates to the pmchart(1) man page. Also, fix two bugs found in the process. Firstly, File -> Save View menu option was not preserving wildcards, instead it was saving the expanded title. Second, modifications via the (interactive) Plot title line edit on the New and Edit Chart dialogs was not correctly updating the chart on pressing OK or Apply. Resolves Red Hat bug #1066174.
