Description Chris Adams 2014-03-05 16:51:26 UTC
The version of rancid in EPEL is out of date (hasn't been updated since the initial EPEL build 3 years ago, while Fedora rancid has seen several updates). Can we get an updated release?

Would a co-maintainer help?

Comment 1 Chris Adams 2014-04-25 14:12:34 UTC
Hello? Is rancid still maintained in Fedora or EPEL?

Sorry, for some reason I missed this one. I finally got commit access as I'd like to see an update as well. I'll see if I can get a build going and get something in koji by next week.

Thanks. Let me know if you need a test.

I've got a scratch build for rancid 3.0

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=6792339

We require git support in rancid and am currently trying to get something out of the upstream about why its not in there.

I may have to request a second package for rancid-git (https://github.com/dotwaffle/rancid-git) seems like he forked it and is supporting a few features that we (where I work) are more concerned about.

Please let me know if the build works for you, especially if the build requires configuration changes or the shared state doesn't work.

I did a mock rebuild of your SRPM for EPEL 6 and tried it on CentOS 6. Here are a few notes:

- the router.db change from ":" to ";" should probably be announced (release notes, EPEL mailing list?)

- /etc/rancid/rancid.conf: BASEDIR needs to be set to /var/rancid, not /var

- /etc/rancid/rancid.conf: PATH should include /usr/sbin (or rancid-run can't find sendmail) - this is actually a bug in the old RPM as well

- /etc/rancid/rancid.conf: LOGDIR should be /var/log/rancid for compat with old RPM

Otherwise, I believe it looks okay.

Hopefully this build is better, my group here really wants the git backend features. Since, upstream is unwilling to consider adding patches provided that support it, I'm trying to consider alternatives for them.

 1. Support a basic git patch in fedora.
 2. Support rancid-git fork on github...
