RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Noriko Hosoi 2014-03-21 01:29:56 UTC
This bug is created as a clone of upstream ticket:
https://fedorahosted.org/389/ticket/47748

Simultaneous adding a user and binding as the user could fail in the password policy check since the bind_target_entry is not created at the timing when it is retrieved.

Comment 3 Amita Sharma 2014-08-20 07:51:05 UTC
Is it the same user, in comment#0 adding a user and binding as the user ?
Please help.

I think the answer is yes.

Please take a look at the reproducer.
In each loop, Directory Manager adds a test user in the background manner.
At the same time, it calls search which bind user is the one just added.
We repeat it until it was successful or up to 40 times and go to next.
(Usually, the user add is completed and the ldapsearch returns success by the time for me. If it's not for you, you could increase 40 to higher number.)

Since it's a race condition, I repeat 10000 times to make sure we don't miss the timing.

Comment 5 Amita Sharma 2014-08-25 07:24:58 UTC
Thanks for the details Noriko, I did not get any crash after running script although I have changed the number to 80 in script.

Marking bug as VERIFIED.

Hi Amita, can you verify this bug with the latest build of 389-ds-base-1.2.11.15-44? You also need to run the test case given in Bug #1139637.

Comment 11 Amita Sharma 2014-09-10 12:25:56 UTC
Tested with ::
[root@dhcp201-149 export]# rpm -qa | grep 389-ds-base
389-ds-base-debuginfo-1.2.11.15-44.el6.x86_64
389-ds-base-1.2.11.15-44.el6.x86_64
389-ds-base-libs-1.2.11.15-44.el6.x86_64

Executed https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1139637 steps too.

Marking as VERIFIED.

Comment 12 Sankar Ramalingam 2014-09-11 18:02:19 UTC
