Comment 3 Einav Cohen 2014-03-27 23:01:22 UTC
the line is being broken to two in other locales as well - see attachment 879682 [details], we cannot enlarge the dialog width too much, breaking the text to two lines is reasonable.

@Robert/Yuko - is there any way to shorten the Japanese string / insert a whitespace somewhere within the Japanese string so it will be broken to two lines in a way that makes sense?

thanks.

Comment 4 Yuko Katabami 2014-03-27 23:16:15 UTC
Shorten the string by one character

From カスタムの移行ダウンタイムを使用
To カスタム移行ダウンタイムを使用

(Applied over three files x 2 versions)

This should solve the problem.

Moving the status to POST.

Einav,
Could you list all the applicable locales that need fixing and change the subject accordingly?

Yuko, please note that there is a difference between a breaking text in the middle of a *sentence*, and breaking text in the middle of a *word*.

in attachment 879682 [details] [es-ES], you see an example for a text that is breaking in the middle of a sentence (but all words remain intact), which is a reasonable behavior, therefore the text should not be shortened/modified.

this is the behavior for all locales, except Chinese (which seems to remain in a single line) and Japanese (which seems to be broken in the middle of a "word"), therefore only Japanese should be fixed.

please 'needinfo' me if you have any additional questions.

Comment 7 Einav Cohen 2014-04-08 22:56:18 UTC
granting devel_ack+, as this is already resolved.

ja-JP New VM window Host tab broken line is now fixed

Confirmed the fix on AV6.
Moving the status to VERIFIED.

Closing as part of 3.4.0

Comment 10 Bhushan Barve 2014-08-20 07:12:34 UTC
Observing the same issue in this version:
Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager: 3.5.0-0.6.master.el6_5

The string 'Use custom migration downtime' should be in one line. This has been observed for all languages.
Please find attached screen-shot

#2 ykatabam Aug. 7, 2014, 8:15 p.m. On the Host tab in New Virtual Machine windows, Japanese translation for the string "Use custom migration downtime" is broken into two lines. Only the last character is placed in the second line and does not look good.

[since this happened in English as seen above, moved to 'virt']

in 3.6, it seems like this has already been resolved (maybe in the context of a different BZ), as seen in attachment 1086167 [details] which contains screen-shots of the New VM dialog in multiple locales, all of which look ok -> moving to ON_QA.

de_DE-2lines-looks-ok

I have checked it for de_DE(German) and fr_FR(screen shot attached). For de_DE, it seems the sentence is splitting into 2 lines due to the long translation string, but as long as this is the optimum (Can not be shorten more than the existing) one, I think, its ok, and we can accept it.

And for fr_FR, the translated strings has been accommodated in one line, so, it is also ok naturally.

Screen shot attached. For de_DE and fr_FR, this bug is fixed. If it is fixed for ja_JP, please verify for ja_JP and close(VERIFIED) this bug.

Verified with all other locales. The option looks proper now.
Changing the state to Verified.
