Description of problem: Attempted to connect to a what I think was an ad-hoc WiFi network. I don't know if it's reproducible yet. Before the kernel error, there was a iwlwifi microcode SW error reported in the dmesg output. I'll try to attach that to the bugzilla once it's created. More info on this: I was thinking that right-clicking on an item in the Network Manager applet would tell me more about that item. Instead, it attempted to connect, hence this error. The dmesg file attached by the abrt processing contains more info about the iwlwifi microcode error that I mentioned in the original text.

*********** MASS BUG UPDATE ************** We apologize for the inconvenience. There is a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 20 kernel bugs. Fedora 20 has now been rebased to 3.14.4-200.fc20. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel. If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.
I was able to reproduce this on the same machine with the latest kernel. I'll report it as soon as I reboot it, as the network interface was left in a state from which it couldn't recover.
Description of problem: With the NetworkManager applet, I right-clicked on an ad-hoc WiFi network named Portthru, which I'm led to believe is a printer of some type. There you go. The report in Comment 8 above is from a machine with an Intel 5300 "full-size mini" pci-e wireless card. Let me know if you need more info. I can reproduce this on demand, as long as my neighbor obliges by leaving their printer turned on and with SSID Portthru defined.

My entry of Comment #11 is from plugging in an external wireless USB device, to see if that one would fail upon attempting to connect to the ad-hoc network. It turns out that a very similar failure occured when the device was plugged in. I can confirm that the original problem, the failure when connecting to an ad-hoc network, still happens with Fedora 20 on its latest kernal (3.17.3-200) and with the Fedora 21 Beta Xfce live image. When using the USB wireless device on a system without a built-in wireless, it succeeds, so I suspect the problem lies within the iwlwifi driver or microcode.
*********** MASS BUG UPDATE ************** We apologize for the inconvenience. There is a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 20 kernel bugs. Fedora 20 has now been rebased to 3.18.7-100.fc20. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel. If you have moved on to Fedora 21, and are still experiencing this issue, please change the version to Fedora 21. If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.
I'll re-test, but I'll need to wait until I again see the ad-hoc network that triggered the error when I attempted to connect to it.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '20'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
