Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because
the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.
Cause:
Initial window sizing in Xephyr was broken, such that the DPI computed for Xephyr's root window was far too small.
Consequence:
Fonts in Firefox and other applications would be too small when run inside an X sandbox.
Fix:
Xephyr calculates emulated DPI properly.
Result:
Fonts in sandboxed X applications look correct.

Screenshot
Description of problem:
When running firefox via sandbox:
sandbox -X -t sandbox_web_t firefox
The font of labels in menu and tab titles is very small, cca 3 pixels.
Screenshot attached.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
policycoreutils-2.2.5-11.el7.x86_64
firefox-24.4.0-1.el7.x86_64
THis bug is related to Xephyr.
I am Xephry launching sandbox with the following command.
SCREENSIZE="1000x700"
(/usr/bin/Xephyr -title "$TITLE" -terminate -screen $SCREENSIZE -resizeable -dpi $DPI -nolisten tcp -displayfd 5 5>&1 2>/dev/null) | while read D; do
If I remove the -resizable option the Xephyr window comes up as 1000x700 and the fonts are set correctly in firefox. If Leave the -resizeable options, the 1000x700 does not take effect, I get a small window, and the font is incredibly small.
Unable to reproduce with -27. Probably actually fixed in -23 and later due to the sync with RHEL6.6:
* Tue Sep 09 2014 Adam Jackson <ajax> 1.15.0-23
- Drop vestigial xwayland patch series
- Sync with RHEL6.6:
- Fix GrabPointer to not wrongly succeed on redirected windows
- Enable PAM
- Xephyr fixes for hardware cursor, 8bpp emulation, and initial size
- Xorg fixes for X -configure and mixed pci/fbdev setups
- Remove invalid bug checks
- Emit DeviceChanged after grab deactivation
- Rediff some things to match the above
- Inflate Release to be ahead of RHEL 6.6
