Description poma 2014-04-17 01:05:31 UTC
During system startup:
...
[ INFO ] PNFS blkmaping enablement. is not active.
[DEPEND] Dependency failed for pNFS block layout mapping daemon.
...
If this is not a bug, can you explain what these messages mean?
Thanks.

I get the same Error message right after updating

Jan 29 09:00:16 yum[16794]: Updated: 1:nfs-utils-1.3.1-6.0.fc21.i686
...
Jan 29 09:00:20 systemd[1]: Dependency failed for pNFS block layout mapping daemon.

Comment 2 Gilles J. Seguin 2015-02-09 00:15:59 UTC
do not ask for more data, if you can not tell how to get it.

The message is same as poma

Comment 3 Alex. H. F. 2015-02-17 19:21:25 UTC
Hello Gilles,

I have same problem, and WOULD LIKE TO HAVE INFO on that...

Best DATA would be to understand these messages, to find a solution for them.

Many thanks!

I am reopening as this is a bug and there doesn't seem to be any explanation why.

From a user's perspective, if I install NFS, as I have been doing for many years, why suddenly does booting Fedora throw a warning telling me that some service pNFS is missing dependencies?

From other distributions, it seems that users are "hiding" the bug by simply masking the unit file.

    systemctl mask nfs-blkmap.service

For me, hiding the problem is not a solution. Could someone with more knowledge about this sudden change in packaging or default configuration explain this?

boot.log:
    ...
[ OK ] Created slice User and Session Slice.
[ INFO ] PNFS blkmaping enablement. is not active.
[DEPEND] Dependency failed for pNFS block layout mapping daemon.
             Mounting RPC Pipe File System...
[ OK ] Reached target Slices.
    ...

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this? Is this an issue with systemd or the nfs-utils unit files? Or the actual nfs-utils package?
