Re: comment 11 We're puposely tracking the lightdm-1.10.x LTS branch in fedora (for now), since other branches have shorter support lifetime than fedora's ~13 mos. As far as that specific bug, that fix is reportedly included in lightdm-1.10.3 too, currently in updates-testing repo.

purposely, yes. each lightdm 1.X release isn't supported long enough for fedora (and I'd rather avoid doing 1.X+1 updates)
You're very conservative packager, therefore you should work on RHEL/CentOS, not on Fedora/Rawhide. You have my recommendation, old lad.
You're welcome to help maintain lightdm, if you want to steer things in a different direction.

(In reply to Rex Dieter from comment #19) > You're welcome to help maintain lightdm, if you want to steer things in a > different direction. Maybe a compat package for the other branch series with version 1.15.x? https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:NamingGuidelines#MultiplePackages
And how to you suggest handling making both versions parallel-installable? :) hint: you can't, well, not easily, without renaming stuff all over the place or introducing hacks like alternatives. I'd argue following that path would be unwise.
Why someone would want to install both (or all) versions? Please tell me a sample situation where this should be reasonable. LightDM is a login manager and therefore does not depend on any user preference, this is something the system administrator has to decide, and we still can keep going with lightdm 1.10.x package as the default one, also installed for the spins. You would generally not be able to use two different login managers in parallel and in the same system, like e.g. GDM and LightDM. A virtual provides must prevent such a situation. This is from gdm.spec: Provides: service(graphical-login) = %{name} This is from lightdm.spec: # needed for anaconda to boot into runlevel 5 after install Provides: service(graphical-login) = lightdm
In short, you're suggesting we provide both lightdm-1.10.x and lightdm-1.15.x at the same time, without making them parallel-installable... they would otherwise conflict and not be installable at the same time. and... Having multiple packages that Conflict with each other is generally strongly discouraged, https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:Conflicts#Acceptable_Uses_of_Conflicts: Again, I am in no way interested in supporting that scenario.

Will probably have to disable this service, I can't find any way to direct it to watching only certain releases/branches. closing
