Description of problem:There is a conflict between the Mesa libraries and the Nvidia drivers. I've run into this problem when trying to run Lightworks and with Google Webdesigner. The programs don't function unless you remove libGL rpm -e mesa-libGL.i686 --nodeps rpm -e mesa-libGL.x86_64 --nodeps This problem has been around for a very long time and it needs to be resolved. I know that the Nvidia driver isn't open source but almost everybody uses it so there has to be a way to solve this. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): mesa-libGL 10.1-6.20140305.fc20 akmod-nvidia 331.67-2.fc20 How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Google Webdesigner or Lightworks with YUM 2. Start them 3. Actual results: Get the following error on loading libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast Expected results: Additional info:
> rpm -e mesa-libGL.i686 --nodeps > rpm -e mesa-libGL.x86_64 --nodeps Thanks for the workaround, this has been driving me crazy!
Hi!Unfortunately fedora developers won't fix this issue since it is related to rpm fusion. I filed a bugreport about 2 years before and it was closed as nonfix: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=984906 But the nice people from RPMfusion told me that they don't care and closed my bug report as invalid... so no one actually feels responsible for this, although it bumps up for several users, as one can see ...
On Fedora 21 the work around should be just rpm -e mesa-libGL.x86_64 --nodeps Applications like Lightworks use the 64 bit version of Nvidia MESA (it won't work with the open source version). On F21 Adobe Acrobat requires the 32 bit version of the open source mesa-LibGL.i686, that wasn't the case on earlier vesions of Fedora or on any of the RHEL clones. The SOBs at Adobe have dropped all Linux support so we will never see a fix for Acrobat.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '20'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
rpm -e mesa-libGL.i686 --nodeps rpm -e mesa-libGL.x86_64 --nodeps Thanks for this workaround @bjrosen, which is still a mess in 2020! Shame on you and any sophisticated debate on that! BR Peter
