Description Alexey Pakseykin 2014-05-03 05:30:57 UTC
Description of problem:

- virt-viewer opens all QXL displays configured for VM
- virt-manager, if VM is opened, opens only the first display

And there is even no options to make virtual-manager to switch to second or third display.

----------------------------------------

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
---
Name : virt-manager
Arch : noarch
Version : 1.0.1
Release : 3.fc20
---
Name : virt-viewer
Arch : x86_64
Version : 0.6.0
Release : 1.fc20

----------------------------------------

How reproducible:

Follow this wiki to configure multiple heads:
  http://www.spice-space.org/page/MultiHeadVirtManagerWindowsGuests
The wiki tells about Windows VM which requires SPICE tools, drivers, etc.
I guess Linux (i.e. Fedora) as VM should work with QXL displays out of the box.

Make sure all displays can be opened by virt-viewer (there will be separate virt-viewer window per display):
  sudo virt-viewer VM_NAME

----------------------------------------

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open virt-manager window, enter password if required.
2. Find VM_NAME in the list and double-click to open it.
3. In the VM window click on "View" menue, select "Console" (rather than "Details") to see display output.

----------------------------------------

Actual results:

There is just a single VM display window shown by virt-manager even if the same VM opened by virt-viewer shows all displays (3 in my case).

----------------------------------------

Expected results:

It should be possible to show either all VM displays or be able to choose which one (i.e. from "View" menu).

----------------------------------------

Additional info:

Complains only...

- The fact that two tools from the same family (virt-manager and virt-viewer) behave differently makes it very confusing. In fact, before this bug became clear, I didn't even knew about or looked for separate virt-viewer - I thought they are integrated and all virt-manager does is opens virt-viewer on double click. I was able to "view" VM in virt-manager. And virt-viewer sounded like a mere synonym for virt-manager.
- Setting up multiple displays becomes a troubleshooting headache. People simply don't know and confused that there is a separate application virt-viewer which is the _only_ one to show all displays (not the "Virtual Manager" which they have been using all this time to work with VMs).
- It's just painfully inconvenient. To select VM from the list, to manage it, to do everything in VMs with single display, you go to virt-manager - 80% of time is fine. And _only_ if you realize that one VM has actually several QXL displays, you should go to command line and type `virt-viewer VM_NAME` after _actually_ opening "Virtual Manager" to double check this and whether "VM_NAME" is correct spelling - 20% of time is pain. And there is no apparent reason why all 100% of time should be fine too.
