Description D. Hugh Redelmeier 2014-05-10 14:48:50 UTC
Description of problem:
I'm using the standard F20 gnome desktop but I use kompare (KDE) because I like it better than meld (GNOME). Usually I use it indirectly through git difftool.

Often (but not always) when I quit kompare there is a long pause (about 15 seconds) before the program quits. At that point, the following message appears on the terminal from which kompare was invoked (I don't know if it is stderr or stdout):

QClipboard: Unable to receive an event from the clipboard manager in a reasonable time

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kompare-4.12.4-1.fc20.x86_64

How reproducible:
For me, about 90% of the time.
The exceptions MIGHT be after a fresh boot or login (not sure).

Steps to Reproduce:
1.run kompare from xterm under GNOME desktop
2.quit
3.wait for termination and messages on xterm

Actual results:
slow quit
On xterm:
"QClipboard: Unable to receive an event from the clipboard manager in a reasonable time"

Expected results:
fast quit
no message

Additional info:
This message shows up if you google for it.
The closest match to my situation is https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-32853
This suggests that the problem is with QT and not kompare, but I don't experience it with other programs. I don't know how many KDE applications I use. I tried a minor experiment with kolourpaint and had no problem.

Seems similar but it involved XFCE (I'm not using it)

Comment 1 D. Hugh Redelmeier 2014-05-10 14:55:03 UTC
Sorry, I accidentally submitted the report before I completed it.

The message comes from /usr/lib64/libQtGui.so.4.8.6
It is from qt-x11-4.8.6-2.fc20.x86_64
Source RPM : qt-4.8.6-2.fc20.src.rpm

I was able to duplicate the problem with kolourpaint. Not the first time I tried it, but the second.

1. start kolourpaint from a terminal
2. scribble something
3. select it
4. quit
5. agree to lose your unsaved drawing

There is then a delay and then the same message appears on the terminal.

Comment 2 Rex Dieter 2014-05-10 15:18:54 UTC
Does seem to match
 https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-32853
especially if the clipboard contents were large when you quit the app

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2015-05-29 11:48:42 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2015-06-29 20:33:33 UTC
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
